Roger Garrett as “Elvis”
As a young man, ROGER GARRETT probably never imagined that his uncanny resemblance
to Elvis Presley would one day lead him to becoming an impressive impersonator of
the late superstar. Roger’s love of Elvis began at an early age. His interest grew
even stronger as he discovered his ability to sing along with the music he so loved.
Because of his appearance, he was prompted by others to “Do Elvis”. Songs like
“Heartbreak Hotel” and “Hound Dog” soon became a part of life for the small town
boy from Milligan, Florida. Urged by his friends, Roger reluctantly entered a high
school talent show, which to his amazement, he won! That night, he earned the
admiration of the entire school and was nicknamed “Elvis”.
Upon high school graduation Roger visited New Orleans. While sightseeing on Bourbon
Street, he was approached by a club celebrity who offered him the opportunity to
perform at the famed 500 Club. So began his professional career as “Roger Garrett
as Elvis”. Roger’s unique likeness to Elvis, both visually and vocally, attracted
tourists throughout the world. “I thought it was Elvis” and “unbelievable” were
just a few of the comments from show-goers. The 500 Club gave Roger the exposure
needed by a new artist and become his proving ground.
After Elvis’ death, performances by the talented young impersonator became even more
in demand. In the late 1970’s, he appeared in the “Showcase of Tomorrow’s Stars” at
the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Later that year, he returned to headline in the Sahara
Congo Room.
In the following 16 years, Roger traveled extensively across the country appearing
in such cities as New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville, and Memphis.
He has made guest appearances on many national television shows including Good
Morning America, the Today Show, the Jerry Glanville Show, ESPN, and NFL Live.
His show went international in 1987 when he performed at the Journey's End Caribbean
Club in Belize.
Roger took a brief hiatus from performing but realized that life was not the same
without “Elvis” in it on a daily basis. His recent come-back performance at a
sold-out show at the Athens Theatre in Deland, FL was met by an enthusiastic crowd
who could not get enough of Roger as the “King”. This confirmed in Roger’s mind as
well as his fans that this was definitely the beginning of an exciting new era of
“Roger Garrett as Elvis”.
Not a day goes by that Roger is not approached by someone and asked to “Do Elvis”.
It is that continued fascination by others, most of whom have never seen Elvis that
has assured Roger’s success as “The Elvis Impersonator”.
The King may be gone, but his music, dynamic style, and most of all, his love for
all is alive again as we present “Roger Garrett as Elvis”.
THE LEGEND LIVES ON
